The Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is a 300 acre arboretum & botanical garden. The arboretum includes mature trees and limestone bluffs, with almost 5 miles of trails and two bridges across Wolf Creek, which is a major tributary of the Blue River. As currently planned, the arboretum will be developed over 20 years, with nearly 85 percent of the site set aside for natural ecosystems. The remaining property is earmarked for gardens, buildings, etc. At present, 8 ecosystems have been identified within the arboretum. They include: Dry-Mesic Prairie, Dry Oak-Savanna, Dry Oak-Hickory, Mesic Oak-Hickory Forest, Riparian Woodland, Wooded Draws, Dry Wooded Swales, and Old Field.
Oak Park Mall is one of the area's top shopping locations. The mall contains 190 stores and the mall area is 1,500,000 sq. ft, making it the largest mall in the Kansas City Metro Area. Oak Park is split into two levels and contains five department stores. You'll find a variety of restaurants to choose from in the food-court, and there are also a number of sit-down restaurants available.
The Overland Park's Fall Festival is an annual September event, held in the Santa Fe Commons Park in Overland Park. There are food booths offering everyting from lemonade, hotdogs, hamburgers and ice cream, available along with craft booths featuring jewelry, gifts, art work, clothing and more. You may also enjoy a parade, concerts and children's activities. This fun-filled event is not to be missed! |
